Starlight Theater to Present Cathy Rigby in PETER PAN in July

Kansas City's premiere outdoors theater, Starlight, is set to present Cathy Rigby in PETER PAN as part of their summer 2012 Broadway Season. The show will perform from July 24th through the 29th, at 8 PM. Other shows included in summer line-up are IN THE HEIGHTS, The Addams Family MEMPHIS, AIDA, and LA CAGE AUX FOLLIES.

Tony Award nominee Cathy Rigby takes flight in an all new production of PETER PAN. The beloved story of PETER PAN is filled with timeless magical moments and a captivating hook. PETER PAN is a musical adaptation of J. M. Barrie's 1904 play PETER PAN and Barrie's own novelization of it, PETER AND WENDY. The music is mostly by Mark "Moose" Charlap, with additional music by Jule Styne, and most of the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.

The original 1954 Broadway production, starring Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook, earned Tony Awards for both stars. It was followed by NBC telecasts of it in 1955, 1956, and 1960 with the same stars, plus several rebroadcasts of the 1960 telecast. The show has enjoyed several revivals onstage.

In 1990, Rigby first appeared as Peter Pan in the eponymous musical on Broadway and later took the production on tour. Rigby received excellent reviews for her performance and was nominated for a Tony Award. She played the role again in 1998-99 and in a 2004-2005 tour that was billed as Rigby's farewell, and she temporarily retired from playing Peter in 2006. In 2008,  Rigby returned to the role of Peter Pan at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh and again appeared as Peter in 2009 at the Mansion Theater in Branson, MO. A new tour of the show began August 2011, and has continued to travel across the country.
