Can I audition for more than one show? Yes! Ages 8 and up may choose to audition AND be cast in more than one production for only $145. The only shows that have rehearsals that conflict are A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Hobbit.

Casting: All auditionees should enroll in the Spring Production Class online and read ALL the information.

MUSIC--Girls, ages 8 and up should prepare the song “Once Upon a Dream” from Sleeping Beauty or “I’ll Know” from Guys and Dolls. Boys ages 8 and up should prepare “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” from Sound of Music or “My Defenses are Down” from Annie Get Your Gun. We will have sheet music and CD accompaniment available for check out starting December 15th. Students ages 5-7 may choose a simple song such as, "Jesus Loves Me," or "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."

DRAMA and DANCE auditions will be COLD and taught on the spot. Act One is a TRAINING academy, so any level of experience and talent is welcome.

NOTE: Due to food allergies, ACT One is a nut-free zone, so please do not bring any food items with peanuts, peanut butter or other nuts to auditions, rehearsals or shows. Thank you!

Scholarships: Scholarships may be awarded for up to 75% of the tuition fees. Additional parent volunteer hours will be expected outside of regular crew assignments (for example: helping with PR, cleaning up after rehearsal, selling snacks, helping with tickets, etc). If a family needs financial assistance, please turn in the scholarship application on or before the night of the student's audition (see schedule above for age-specific dates). Act One offers payment plans for families who need them.

Deadlines: Please expect all deadlines to be strictly observed.

Casting: All auditionees should enroll in the Spring Production Class online. Auditions are for characters to be placed in the show, not for being part of the show. A place in the show will be given to all who audition unless two or more rehearsals will be missed or there are behavioral issues in conflict with the ACT One Code of Conduct.

Are Auditions and Callbacks closed? Yes. We believe that students are more free to be creative and expressive with only the directors as an audience. We try to make auditions as fun as possible!

Even if you are not trained as a singer, please perform your selection with good characterization, enthusiasm and energy!

Do I have to sing a solo? NO. Students may also audition as part of a group, but will NOT be considered for a solo or a lead role which requires a vocal solo.

What is the Musical Theatre Juniors program for ages 5 to 7? The Juniors program was started to give students ages 5-7 the opportunity to perform on the stage. Our Junior age group is limited to 25 cast members or less, depending on the show. Casting will be based on appropriate skills and abilities to play a role, a positive team attitude, and parental support and involvement. Juniors have an abbreviated audition process and are admitted into the program based on their ability to pay attention and learn a 3-5 minute dance, drama, and/or song section of the show. Junior members of the cast are featured in a scene or dance of the performance. Actual length of time on the stage is based on the story and contract obligations of each particular show. Tuition includes training, involvement through classes and rehearsals, participation in the production, curtain call, and of course, the cast party. Juniors may be asked to sit with family during actual performances due to limitations with green room size and availability. Junior cast members may advance to the full-time cast based on instructor approval. Junior families are asked to support the show through volunteer hours on a crew and through ticket sales.

What if I have a conflict?
Absences are extremely hard on the cast member, the show staff and fellow cast members, therefore:

• All cast members are expected to attend ALL scheduled rehearsals and show activities. (NOTE: Some cast members may not be needed for every rehearsal, but they will be expected to attend each rehearsal his/her part is needed.)

• Please list expected absences (with dates) on audition sheets, for director approval. More than two absences may affect casting.

• Additional absences will be excused ONLY if it is a school-related activity for a grade or contagious sicknesses.

• A maximum of two unexpected, excused absences are allowed per student, per show.

• Excessive tardiness is grounds for dismissal, as it is disruptive to rehearsal and detrimental to the cast member who needs to learn his/her part.

• Cast members who have two (2) unexcused absences or have been late three (3) times to rehearsal will be called by a director to discuss the cast member’s commitment to this show. It may be in the best interest of the cast and staff to reassign the role.

• Vacations or other activities added after the show is cast will not be excused.

• The show director will need to approve all absences, with two weeks’ notice.

• Obviously, extenuating circumstances will be taken into considerations, i.e. death in the family, hospitalization, etc., but the director needs to be notified.

NO REFUNDS AFTER THE FIRST REHEARSAL

* Cast size will be set prior to show casting. Stage space, Green Room and Backstage limitations will determine cast size for each show.

To streamline ACT One’s accounting and ordering, PLEASE plan to pay ALL SHOW FEES AT THE FIRST PARENT MEETING. (DVDs are available separately and not during auditions.)

Tuition needs to be paid in full by the second parent meeting. Reminders will appear in show-related emails and a final notice will be sent out prior to the second parent meeting.

Family Commitment:
CAST MEMBER’S FAMILY COMMITMENTS TO ACT ONE DURING THE SHOW SEMESTER
Producing a show takes a dedicated team of parents and volunteers. Act One asks that you please prayerfully consider the time commitment prior to enrolling your child or committing to the show. Parent involvement, attitude and support may also be considered during casting. Being in ACT One activities affects a student’s whole family, and cast members need to have parental support to make this a successful experience. If a parent is unable to fulfill his/her commitment to his/her assigned parent crew, a director will be calling to discuss the family’s commitment to the show. Future casting AND scholarship decisions will be affected by lack of parent involvement.

Family donations of time: 
Act One asks that each family select an area to serve for the show. (See enrollment form for details.) Parent Crews include: Green Room, Juniors’ Green Room, Props, Sets, Technical (lights and sound), Souvenirs, Makeup & Hair, Costumes, Historian, Program, PR/Marketing, House, Refreshments, Silent Auction, and Backstage.

• Families that do not select a crew on which to serve will be assigned to a crew, so please pick where YOU would like to serve. The ACT One staff does its best to honor these preferences. Please choose THREE options—if you choose only one, we will be forced to place you on a crew that needs the most help. If we have multiple selections for the same crew (such as refreshments), we will put the names into a drawing and assign the crews at random.

• ALL FAMILIES ARE EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE 25 HOURS TO A PARENT CREW.

• Each family should plan to have at least one member as an active helper during Move-In (insert date) and Strike (insert date). These family members must be at least 14 years old at the time of Move-In and/or Strike.

• We will be taking attendance at parent meetings, scheduled work days for move-in, strike and crew work. These events are mandatory and are held to keep everyone in the informed. Please plan now to attend the meetings.

• We will be giving away a voucher for ½-off tuition for a future class, show or camp at each parent meeting.

• One (1) item donation to the silent auction (to raise money for ACT One tuition scholarships)
