ACT One Opens K-12 Homeschool Academy, Fall 2012

ACT One Fine Arts Academy will launch its Homeschool Academy this fall 2012. Classes will be held on Thursdays. A new tab is located on the website just for the Homeschool Academy.

Space is limited, so please enroll early. ACT One will close enrollment for each age group when the maximum number is reached: 15 for K-2nd, 15 for 3rd-5th, 15 for 6th-8th, and 25 for 9th-12.

A Homeschool Academy with FUN, EXCITING classes which are open to students ages K-12th grade. Students enrolled in private or public school may take classes in the afternoon as well.

Classes will be taught by school teachers and staff members with expertise in their areas of content. Our staff has been hand-selected to be FUN, but also take learning to the highest level of thinking possible...Margaret Barnett, Becky Everly, Shannon Le Grand, Keifer Lucchi, Amy and Dave Schirmer all have years of teaching combined and a passion for learning.

Classes will take place at Northland Mission Church, 600 NW 110th Terr, KC, MO 64155 on Thursdays, September 20-November 29th (off for Thanksgiving). There will be a final presentation on November 29th.

Enroll today to secure your spot. Class sizes will be limited to 15 students or less in Elementary K-2, 15 or less in Elementary 3rd-5th, 15 or less in Middle School, and 25 or less in High School. Enroll at www.act1kc.com.

Facility Fee: There will be a $50 enrollment fee per semester to cover facility cleaning, insurance and utilities.

Book Fee: There will be a $50 book and copy fee per semester to cover the cost of textbooks, copies, manipulatives, and other resources.

Tuition: Tuition should be paid by check or through PayPal. If you need to break the tuition into a monthly payment plan, please fill out the form online.

T-shirts: To assist with safety and security, we ask that all students wear a Homeschool Academy T-shirt to classes. T-shirts are $10 each.

Service Hours: Families will take turns helping with set up and tear down each week. Please choose one week to help and plan to stay for the day to help with set up, check in, lunch time, study hall, tear down and clean up.

Class Assistants: High School Students may apply to assist a teacher in a class for younger students in trade for 50 percent off of one class tuition. Students may assist in no more than three classes in trade for three classes. Students will be selected based on completion of an application and an interview with the teacher and director.

Homework: Students will be given homework in the form of projects to greater increase their level of understanding content areas. These projects should prove to be fun and should be completed prior to the next class. Classes are designed to be an extension of material learned at home—not a replacement. Our focus will be on sharpening skills and providing an overview of the subject matter.

Curriculum: These classes will be FUN, encourage SMALL GROUP discussion and participation, and allow students to THINK CRITICALLY about the subject matter. Curriculum and content for the core subjects will be based on the Missouri Common Core State Standards for English, Language Arts, Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. Full-Day Schedule:

K-2nd Graders: 8:45-2:15, Lunch from 12:30-1:00 (NO peanut butter, please). Students may bring a snack for the morning sessions as well.
3rd-5th Graders: 8:45-3:30, Lunch from 12:30-1:00 (NO peanut butter, please). Students may bring a snack for the morning sessions as well.
6th-8th Graders: 8:45-3:30, Lunch from 12:30-1:00 (NO peanut butter, please). Students may bring a snack for the morning sessions as well.
9th-12th Graders: 11:15-4:45, Lunch from 12:30-1:00 (NO peanut butter, please). Students may bring a snack for the morning sessions as well. CLEAN UP from 4:45-5:00.

**Students do not have to enroll in all classes. There will be a location for a study hall time if not in class. Students should plan to work quietly on homework or projects. Please be prompt in dropping off and picking up students. All students K-8th will need to be signed in and out by a parent. Students 9th-12th may sign in and out on their own.

Shannon Le Grand has served the Northland community as an instructor of Creative Drama at Park University, a teacher at Oak Park High School, Park Hill High School, LCA, and Northland Christian High School. She has a B.A. in English Language and Literature with a minor in Theater and a B.S. in Secondary Education. She is currently enrolled in Grad School working on a Master's in Christian Counseling. She has directed over thirty-five dramas and musicals and has performed in numerous shows and has published several scripts. She is also the 2005 recipient of The Hometown Hero Award. She has a wonderful husband and three beautiful daughters. Shannon is excited to share her love for Christ and her passion for teaching kids through training in the arts.
